STATEMENT BY THE PREMIER. SURPLUS FOR NINETEENTHS. NEED FOR FURTHER EFFORTS. By Tjlegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Yesterday. The Right. Hon. W. F. Massey, president of the Recruiting Board, has issued the following statement:— The 10th Reinforcements, which mobilises for training next week, is now complete. As a matter of fact there has been an excess of registrations in some groups, with the result that the draft for the whole Dominion will go into camp over strength. The official figures of the registrations for the infantry (nil oilier arms of the service being full us at date of Friday, the 14th inst.) are as follows: Group I, Auckland City.—Cemplete. Group 2, Paeroa.—Complete. Group 3, Whangarci.—Shorage S. Group 4, Hamilton.—Complete. Total shortage for Auckland military district, S. Group u, Wellington City.—Surplus 20. Group 8, Palmerston North.—Surplus 34. Group 7, Napier.—Shortage 2S. Group 7a, Musf erfoii. —Surplus 22. Group 8, Hawera.—Surplus 15. Total surplus for Wellington military district fit). Group !), Christehurch City.—Surplus Group 10, Timaru. —Surplus 4. Group 11, Kaiapoi.—Shortage 2. Group 11a, Grevmouth. —Shortage 21. Group 12, Nelson.—Surplus 23. Total Dominion surplus, 53. 20tii I! ENFORCEMENTS. Registrations for the 20th Reinforcements'are no.\ well in hand in most of the groups. The Board wishes to impress on recruiting committees the urgent necessity of keeping up the flow of recruits. as it will be some time before the preparations for bringing the Military Service Act into operation will he completed. Thin woi\: is now in .progress but. in the meantime, and until the compulsory provisions of the Act can he enforced, it is essential there should be 110 slackening off in enlistments. We have now reached the stage in the great struggle when it is more than ever necessary to maintain our force in the field at full strength. (Signed). W. F. Massey.
