There have been 14 deaths owing to a heat wave at Detroit. The longshoremen's strike led to riots at Seattle and Tacoma. Three were shot, seriously. THE NEED FOR A PACIFIC FLEET. London, July 10. The Daily Telegraph's Washington correspondent says that, during the debate on the Navy Bill in the Senate, Senator Lodge admitted that the. navigation of the Panama Canal was so unreliable that the transference of the fleet was uncertain, therefore a Pacific fleet must he built in addition to the Atlantic fleet.
