N.Z. ALLIANCE'S PROTEST. AGATNT 'PARLIAMENTARY ACTION 1 . By TYL'g.'aph.—Press Association. Wellington, duly 1"2. The New Zealand Alliance Executive to-day, after considering the Parliamentary attitude toward the petitions favoring six o'clock closing, adopted the following resolution:—'That this executive enters ail emphatic protest that after the M to X Committee had taken evidence for over a week on the anti-shout-ing and li o'clock closing questions, and had recommended both petitions to the favorable consideration of the Government, that seven members of Parliament should use the forms of the House to prevent a vote being taken thereon when the report was submitted. It urges the Government to give the House another opportunity of deciding (hereon, believing that the need is great, and that people are demanding these restrictions with increased force. It leclares that tlie Government will incur a grave responsibility if it fails to give the House an opportunity of closing the bars at C p.m., or if. as an alternative, it docs not provide for a referendum on similar lines t.® the one submitted to the people of New South "Wales. There is abundant evidence lhat an overwhelming majority of the j-cople sincerely desire anil insistently demand the curtailment of the hours'of sale during the period of the war and for six months thereafter."
