HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. CONDITION OF THE RAILWAYS. Wellington, Last Night'. The House met at T. 30. Mr. Wilford asked the Minister. of Railways a question as to the condition of tlie iailways, and suggested that Mr. Marehbanks, formerly engineer of the Manawatu railway, should be instructed to make a thorough investigation of tins condition of the railways since Mr. Hiley took charge; also to set up a commission of inqu'ry. Mi. Hen-ies said that, so far as h* was aware, the rolling stock was in excellent rendition. He asked Mr. Wilford to give notice of the question, when he v/ciild have a report prepared. REPORTS TABLED. The report of the committee oh the Foxton wharf and proposed Levin-Great-ford railway was laid on the table, The bcn.l members, Messrs. Field, Newman, Guthrie, and Bnick, ommented on the report, and after Mr. Hemes had replied, the report was ordered to lie on the table and he printed. The report of the commissioners on Native land claims at Waiau (Southland), was laid on the table, and was under discussion at the supper-adjourn-ment. Mr. Herries, in reply, pointed out that the decision was one'arrived at by two judges, in whom the greatest confidence was shown The report was ordered, to be minted. PRIVATE BILLS. , The Auckland Harbor Board Empowering Bill was considered in committee, icported with a slight amendment, read a third time and passed. The vYangamii Borough Council Street k'.mpowerinj. Amendment Bill, and the City of Nelson Loans Conversion and Conservig Amendment Bill were read a second time. Both bills were reported fiom committee without aiueml'i"-*-read a third time and passed. The House rose at 10.3.1.
