VERDUN BATTLES.
VIOLENT ARTILLERY STRUGGLE. EXEMY AIR RAIDS. Paris, July 7. There was a very violent artillery struggle in the Thiaumont, Fleurj', and Chenois sector?. German aeroplanes bombed an open town on the Euro. Eleven women and children were killed. A note was taken ef tie act, with a view to reprisal*. OFFICIAL REPORT. Wellington, July 8. The High Commisisoner reportr under date London, July 7 (3.55 p.m.) : On the Scmme there has been n< fighting during the night. To the left of the Mcuse there has been an intermittent bombardment. To the right the artillery action is more v.olent in the region of 'iliiaumont works, and in the sectors at Floury and-Chenois. At Bois le Pretre at X p.m. yesterday the enemy made a small attack on one of our trenches, but was immedately thrown out of the elements he had reached. In the same sector a trench coup de-main was entirely successful. On a front of 200 metres grenadiers destroyed an enemy trench and took prisoners. Yesterday a bombarding aerial squadron dropped forty bombs on the railway junction at Lam-les-Moines, westward of Charleville.
