BAND RECITAL.
AT THE BREAKWATER. That the public of New Plymouth appreciate good music and are prepared to support a band that caters for their enjoyment, as the Citizens' Band is doing at present, was evidenced by the crowd thai journeyed to the Breakwater yeslerday afternoon to listen to a recital i.'.iven by the band, under the baton of Mr. F. McLeod, conductor. The following programme was submitted: Quickstep, ''Perseverance" (Urecnwood); i.eombono solo, "The Death of Nelson," soloist- Musician F. Coleman (Braham); (iraml selection, "Memories of Balfe" (Round); sacred, celebrated "Largo" (Handel I; cornet solo, "Somewhere a Voice is Calling." soloist. Musician X. l.ovell (Tate); hvinns (a) "Fight the C'ood Fi-ht" (Bovdl, li "For Those in Peril on the Sea" (Dykes): quickstep, "Our Lieutenant" (Hall); National Anthem. The audience were very appreciative, and marked their pleasure by applause. The collection taken up in aid of the band's founds realised £l7 15s. During the afternoon. Mr. R. Coek, on behalf of the band, thanked the public for their support. A special tram service was run, the arrangements reflecting great credit on the management, as no less than 1700 people travelled by the cars.
