SCENIC RESERVES.
KH MEETING OF NEW PLYMOUTH BOARD. A special meeting of the Board was held at the District Lands Office on Thursday, there being present: Mr. G. H. Bullard (Commissioner), in the chair, 'Or. H. B. Leatham, and Messrs S. Percy Smith and W A. Mollis. N Mr. Davis wrote apologising for unavoidable absence. The chainnar and Mr. Smith were deputed to inspect and report on the Ptikemiro and Onaero river scenic reserves, which have been placed under (the control of the Board. It was decided to recommend the Minister in charge to grant a four years' improvement lease over the open portion of Ratapihipihi reserve (about four acres) at a peppercorn rental and subject to certain conditions regarding cropping, grazing and fencing. The matter of preparing seed beds of wattle for planting in the open spaces of the same reserve was left in the hands of Messrs Collis and Davis for action. The chairman informed the Board that the Government had voted £25 for the year in connection with the maintenance and. improvement of the various reserves under the Board's control. Mr. Smith undertoo:; .to grade paths dining the spring through the Ratapihipihi reserve, to give access to the water and make the reserve more accessible to the public. Mr. (Villi's lirought up the question of having tfie Onaero Domain added to the Onaero river scenic reserve and brought under the Hoard's control, seeing that the reserve is not likely to be required for the original purpose. The chairman promised to look into the question of getting legislative authority to have the purpose of the reserve changed, with a eiew to getting it vested in the Board.
