THE £22,000 LOAN.

COST OF THE TJRAM ROUTE. At last night's meeting of the Borough Council Work's Committee, the Mayor stated that subject possibly, to slight revision, the cost of metalling and soltarring file tram route had been 120,5n5. Of this amount, £17.398 had been taken from the £24,000 loan for streets, etc., the balance being expended out of the tramways loan. The position of the £24,000 loan, therefore, wag that £I7,SOS had been expended on the tram route and £IOGB on various other works. The sum of £2">GB was allocated for the destructor and Brougham street culvert, and £2300 fo, the payment of the first year's interest and preliminary expenses. This left a balance of about £174 to complete about £COOC worth of work. Some discussion ensued over the cost o! the tram route, and finally the borough engineer was instructed to submit a report -showing how the estimated cost of completing the tram route, as submitted in February last, was exceeded.
