VERDICT OF MANSLAUGHTER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmerston North, July 1. An inquest on the bodies of Howdy and bia wife, victims of the Taonui crossing fatality, was held this morning before Mr. Poy'nton, S.M. A verdict of manslaughter " was returned against Thomas Stanley Madge, driver of the car which collided with the train. Madge was arrested and charged. He pleaded not guiltv and was committed for trial, bail being allowed at £'2o(l. The Coroner found tiiat neither the driver nor the guard of the train was in any way to blame.
