CANTERBURY PROVIDES MORE THAN ITS QUOTA. By telegraph.—Press Association. Christelnm-li, Last Night. On the Christchurch draft of the 18t!l Reinforcements assembling to-night, 41 men wore requested to withdraw and go forward with the 10th Reinforcements. Colonel Chall'ey, oflicer commanding the Canterbury district, intimated tliut in consequence of all the men notified having turned up, the draft was over strength, and he would asl; 41 to volunteer to stay behind. Cries of "Xo, no!'' and hoots "was the response from the men. Colonel Chaffy: "If there are no volunteer.*. 1 shall have to call out th» names <f tho.se who eame in last, and they will have to yo out." Theic wen.' mart erie.3 of "yn. Vol" iind entreaties not to be left behind. Colom-1 ClmfTcy: "Well, luiys, I fannot sort you out here. Jfon will all go to Lyt'telton, and you will have to he sorted out there." Voices: "We are nil going!" On arrival of the draft at it was found that there was accommodation on the steamer for all of the men, and the local authorities drei'Vl to >end them on, and lot the surplus number be dealt with by headquarters in Wellington in the morning.'
