GERMAN COUNTEROFFENSIVE. EASILY REPULSED. ■DON COSSACKS' EXPLOITS. Received June 28, 11 p.m. Petrograd, June 2S. A communique states: Numerous attempt by the German infantry to take the offensive in the northern sector:*, especially in the Luck district, were easily repulsed. Heavy bombardment of Stockhood, in the middle Styrpa f ront, continue. General Brusiloff reports that the prisoners captured by Mm from the 4th to the 23rd total 4031 officers and 104,041 men, 219 guns, 644 machine guns, 190 bomb mortars, and 38 searchlights. During the crossing the Dneister parties of Don Cossacks swam naked, carrying only theit rilles. -Reaching the other bank, they attacked the enemy with the bayonet and held the position until reinforced. THE KOEVEL DEFENCES. BEING ENORMOUSLY STRENGTHENED. KOLOMEA THREATENED. Received June 28, 11 p.m. Petrograd, June 2S. A hundred thousand, including many prisoners, ,are strengthening the Kovel defences, extending for ten miles from the town. Don Cossacks crossing . the Dneister southwest of Rukzocz threaten Kolomca, an important junction. It is expected that the Cossacks wil) sweep round the Cherniva river from the west.
