borough council. (irom Our Own Correspondent.) •Stratford, Yesterday. A special meeting of the Council was lwld on Monday. 1 lie valuers ol tlic olectric light plant submitted their valuations, but as the matter was not completed, it was decided not to make the amount public until the full valuation was completed. It was decided to. ask the ratepayers' sanction for a loan of £IO,OOO for purchasing the undertaking and making furrier extensions. Tt was decided to take tlie poll on August 2. and a meeting will be called some weeks prior to this to discuss the matter.
Ihe Borough solicitor was instructed to draft a clause in the "Washing-up Mill," validating the Council's action in raising a loan for the erection of the Municipal Buildings, for the consideration of the Minister of Lands.
It was decided to paint the interior ol and three shops, and to lease the hoardings to Mr. Fred Foley at £lO per annum', providing that no liquor or antiliquor advertisements are displayed on the hoardings. Die engineer was instructed to make a detailed report of the required repairs to file Town Hall.
"Fair Play and Fair Play" writes: "For some time past I have noticed an employee of the Stratford Borough Council riding his motor-cycle on the footpaths of Broadway from R. H. Robinson's shop, past the Bank of New Zealand, through the vestibule to the Borough Council offices, at the rear of the Municipal Buildings. What is the use of an overseer if this kind of thing ia permitted? If another person crossed tlic footpath with a rubber tyred gig he would be had up and fined 205."
