RUSSIA ADVANCING. THROUGH TO TRANSYLVANIA, Rome, June 2G. A telegram from Petrograd announces that the Russians liave penetrated into the province of Transylvania. FUQIIIVES FROM BUKOVINA. ARRIVING IN BOUMANIA. Received June 27, 5,0 p.m. London, June "27. The Times' correspondent at Bucharest states that thousands of Bukovina inhabitants are arriving in Roumania, including Austrian officials and civilians. The greatest distress is prevailing amongst the refugees, who state that the Aui.trians expect reinforcements of one iierman and two Bulgarian army corps. ENEMY COUNTER EFFORTS. RUSSIANS' STEADY PROGRESS, Received June 27, 0.0 p.m. iPetrograd, June 26.
A communique says: The enemy offensive cast of Gorodivshee and north of Baranovitche was repulsed, and we also repulsed an attack on five versts south-west of Lipsk.
The Germans, on the to Sokul line, bombarded us, carrying out several local offensives, which, however, were all repulsed. We drove off repeated massed attacks at Linevka, on the Stockhod. Tile Cossacks crossed the Stvr, south of Buczacz, and overthrew the enemy's advance guard, occupying two villages. Our cavalry occupied positions near Pozoenitta for ten versts west of Kimpolung. Wc have approached the passes leading to Transylvania.
ON THE KOVEL FRONT. RUSSIANS- ADVANCE STOPPED. BY HEAVY GERMAN FORCES. Received June 27. 10 p.m. ■Potrograd, June 27. The Russians on the Kovel front advanced forty-eight miles in ten days, until rapidly-increasing enemy formations compelled them to slow down, and they were forced to defend themselves against the attacks of superior numbers, including the Tenth Prussian Corps from Klieims, the Fiftli Bavarian Corps from Arras, and other troops from Laon and Verdun., Prisoners state that the Kaiser said he intended to send seven German corps to Kovel if they were necessary to re-take Luck.
IN THE CAUCASUS
TURKS CHECKED. AT TREBIZOND AND BAGDAD. Received June 27, .5.5 p.m. Lpndon, June 27. We repulsed many Turkish night attacks in tlie Trebizond sector. The enemy in Northern Mesopotamia carried some sectors near Revanduza, but, ultimately. a counter-attack drove him out. We checked an offensive in the direction of Bagdad and inflicted severe losses.
THE TURKISH CLAIM, Amsterdam, June 26. A Turkish communique claims to have defeated the enemy on the northern readies of the Chiroklh, on the Caucasus front, securing rich booty, including seven machine-guns. The enemy lost 2000 dead. REVOLT IN ARABIA Cairo, une 28. The Grand Sheref's troops cut the telegraphs, uprooted the Hedjaz railway, and destroyed stations for 1.50 kilometres north to prevent the Turks being reinforced.
