SMUTS MARCHING ON. ENEMY SEVERELY DEFEATED. Capetown, June 2<i. General Smuts heavily defeated the enemy on Friday upon the Lukigitra River, forty miles southward of Handeni. vVe irontally attacked the enemy's strong positions in dense bush on the west band of the river and another column, arriving after a night-long march, attacked the left (lank and rear. We captured a pom-pom, two maehinegims, quantities of rifles and ammunition, and many prisoners, including' eleven Germans. Our casualties were four killed and twenty wounded; those of the enemy were severe.
