AUSTRIA'S GET A SURPRISE. Received June 2d, 5.5 p.m. Petrograd, June 24. The latter played a brilliant part in the hard-fought enfjjipfpment in the Lutsk region at the battle for the river crossing at Sokul, This was undecided at midnight, when a force of cavalry was sent some distance i.p the river, where the fords and bridges were in the Russian hands. They crossed, and riding hard, got behind the enemy at dawn, and awaited until the Austro-Gei'inan infantry moved forward. The cavalry immediately charged the enemy from the rear, cutting down large numbers, many surrendered, and stragglers alone escaped.
