A London cable says that the King gave an audience to General Sir Alexander Godley, and invested him with the Order of the Companionship of the Bath.
A v Press Association telegram from Auckland states that Captain Arthur John Ketley, aged 77, died suddenly in the street on his way to church on Sunday. The cause of death wW heart failure. Deceased in the Navy before arriving in New Zealand in 1862. Friends of Mr. M. .T Brennan will be very sorry to hear that last week hid condition was not so satisfactory, and that on Saturday it became necessary to dmpiitate the leg above the knee, at the Hawera Hospital (says the local Star), . : .
Messrs Standish and Standiah. of New Plymouth, solicitors, have admtited into partnership Mr. T. :P. Anderson, of this town, and lataly of Stratford. The business will be carried on in the present offices of the firm under the name of Standish & Anderson.
A London letter, dated May 4, says: Lieut. Arthur Hirst, R N.V.R. (Ta'ranaki), has returned to duty after being invalided from the North Sea. He is now on patrol duty in the Downs.
Advice was received by cable yesterday morning of the death of Trooper C. K. Street, of New Plymouth, who left with the 11th Reinforcements, and .was recently reported dangerously ill in a hospital in France.
