PATRIOTIC COMMITTEES' ART UNION.
To the Editor. Sir, —T am informed that tlip statement is l>pin«>' made that the Wounded Soldiers' Fu',d will not .receive the full benefit of the Art Union for the motor car given by Mr. Xewton King. It should not be necessary, bnt I luive to Rive this statement the straightest denial. The car has been handed to the Now Plymouth and Stratford Patriotic Committees by Mr. King as a free gift and is now held by the committees in trust for tin; winner of the Art Union. The expenses which may be deducted from the gross returns are definitely set out in the license under which the Art Union is conducted. It will, perhaps, please the authors of the statement I. refer to, to know tl at licenses to raffle articles such as motor ears for patriotic purposes are on'v granted by the Minister of Internal Affair" when such articles are absolutely free gifts to the patriotic funds. lam etc., J. E. WILSON. Chairman New Plymouth Patriotic Committee.
