THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION. DEMOCRATIC CONVENTION,
Washington, June 14. Reuter states that the Democratic Convention opened at St. Louis with the usual speeches. There is every expectation that Messrs Wilson and Marshall will be re-nominated by acclamation.
Mr. Wilson, during a patriotic address at Washington, rebuked the disloyalty of a small minority of the citizens of foreign extraction (undoubtedly referring to German sympathisers), saying that at this iroment they were trying "to levy a sort of political blackmail, under threat of vengeance at the polls." It is believed he voiced one of the issues of the campaign which will be in•orporated in the Democratic platform. GERMAN DELIGHT. London, June 14. German newspapers are delighted at Mr. Hughes ousting Mr. Roosevelt from the Presidential contest. *
