Our infantry, using skis, made a surprise attack on the crest of the Vosges and took some prisoners. BRITISH SUCCESS ADMITTED. Amsterdam, June 14. A German communique states that they lost a portion of their new position north-ea.st of Zillebeke, and captured positions west and south of Thiaumont farm, taking 793 prisoners. The Russians north bf Baranowitschi seven times stormed our lines, but were completely Sepulsed wrtii heavy losses. IRELAND. LLOYD GEORGES SCHEME. RECEIVED WITH APPREHENSION. Times and Sydney Sun' Services. London, June 14. The Jriah press is not hopeful over Mr. Llbyd George's proposals. .. The Irish Times declares that it is an undesirable' settlement in t/e most undesirable form.
The Dublin Express considers that it settles nothing and unsettles everything. The Irish Independent says that it is a preposterous and outrageous proposal, mutilating and dismembering Ireland and causing a perpetuation of racial differences.
The English Unionist presß is dubious. Th« Pall Mall Gazette says it is a hesitating 'compromise. Ulster will never consent to provisional exclusion. The outlook is. not improved by the Irish ■Bishops' determination to resist the independence of the :Protestant community. The Liberal press stresses the advantages of an Imperial conference.. The Manchester Guardian says the Jrish people have confidence in the unprejudiced judgment of such a tribunal, regarding it as a court of appeal.
