SUFFERING FROM "NERVES."

i THE THAMES STAR. KOT PRO-GERMAN/ By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, June I_. In the House of Representatives on Friday Mr. T. W,. phodes drew the attention of the Prime Minister to an article in the Thames Star giving Germany the credit of a victory in the recent naval engagement, and suggested that it should be submitted to the Crown law officers for their'opinion as to whether it was actionable.

The Prime Minister said the article had already been submitted to the At-torney-General's department' and steps were being taken to let : the editors and proprietors responsible for such articles understand that pro-German opinions would not'be tolerated. He added tliat the article read as if it had been written in Berlin. The explanation given in regard to the article was that there was not the remotest intention of its bein« pro-German. As u matter of fact the whole policy of the paper had been violently anti-German, as the files would prpve. The writer of the article was "suffering from nerves" and a fit of despondency at the terrible news as it was at first received, and lie was not alone in the Dominion in this respect. It was admitted that the article was indiscreet and regret had been expressed that it appeared.
