Throe members of the Royal Strollers' Company enlisted at New Plymouth, and were medically examined in Pnlmerston on Sunday (says an exchange). Writing to his friends in the Dominion a Xew Zealander of high military rank, now in France, says: "I have been out all day picking up the lay of the land and seeing that the men are comfortable. Patterson (Patea), Morris Roberts (Inaha), Henry Washer (Inaha), Miss A. P. Watt (Waverley), and James Winks (Ararata). Mr. James Grant (Hawera) was re-elected one of the vice-presidents. "Many of our people aro greatly scared about the Zeppelin raids," said Mr. Wilford, in a lecture at Wellington, "and many Germans think that Zeppelins will win the war for them. But what, after all, do the Zeppelin raids amount to? The deaths and casualties due to Zeppelin raids during the past twelve months arc officially stated by the Homo authorities to total 971. Call it a thousand. and how many years at that rate will it take the Zeppelins to exterminate the 45 millions of the British people? Forty-five thousand years! (Applause and laughter.) That' is the way to look at it. And then you must not forget the birth-rate; so that it would take much longer than that." (Laughter and applause.)
