ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
A MAN DROWNED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, June 8. An unknown man was drowned in peculiar circumstances to-night. As the Tarawera was leaving for Napier, the ship's bow was just moving when a man on the wharf rushed forward, apparently anxious to get on board. Someone on the forecastle head lowered a line. The man caught it and was hauled up for some distance, but then let go. The third officer, Isbister, jumped into the water, but the man disappeared before the officer reached him
