HAMPSHIRE SINKS IN 20 MINUTES.
NO SIGN, OF THE BOATS. Received June 8, 8.15 p.m. London, June 8. An eyewitness states t'yit it was a wet and stormy iiifjJit, but there was light enough to recognise the Hampshire. All at once a column of water rose from the ship, and this was followed by a eloud of steam and smoke. The Hampshire disappeared in twenty minutes. The four boats were not seen after they left the vessel. A MEMORIAL SERVICE. A memorial service has been arranged to take place at St. Paul's at noon on Tuesday. The King and Queen will attend, EFFECT I\ T THE TRENCHES. General Sir Douglas Haig sent a message to the King as follows: "The memory of Lord Kitchener will remain with the army as an incentive, and we will not rest until we have: brought his work to a culmination in an enduring victory, SENSATION IN BERLIN. NO REJOICINGS. Berlin reports that no telegam of the year has created a sensation equal to that announcing Lord Kitchener's death. Specials published late in the evening led t<, dense crowds assembling, recalling the early days of the war. There were no rejoicings, and the news was discussed with strange gravity. Lord Kitchener's loss is regarded as the heaviest blow the Allies have yet received.
Tlie Cologne Gazette compares Kitchener with the Duke of Wellington. He was a cool calculator, with a dispassionate head, but without flights of genius. COLONEL FITZGERALD'S BODY FOUND. Received June 8, 10.50 p.m. London, June 8. The body of Lieut-Colonel 0. A. D. Fitzgerald, Lord Kitchener's military secretary, has been washed ashore at the Orkneys.
