TRADE DISPLAYS.
AT THE WINTER SHOW. (Published by arrangement.) NEWTON KING. . This well-known firm's main display is in the machinery annexe, but they have taken advantage of the approach' thereto to make a very novel exhibition on each side of the main hall door. He is showing his well-known Sterling- seeds and mqnures, with niagniiieent roots grown therefrom. On one side stands out what may be called the firm's genealogical tree. Worked in small seeds, a slim trunk stands out bearing the inscription, "New Plymouth, 1870." Immediately behind it has grown into a sturdy forest giant, bearing the legend New Plymouth 1870, on the trunk; and on the branches: Stratford ISOO, Kaponga 1007. Inglewood 11)10,'' Ohura 1010, showing the expansion of the business. Above the doorway appears a picture of Mount F.gmont, also very artistically and realistically picked out in small seeds. The name of the firm, and the date IS7IMIUO are also worked ill larger seeds. With blue quilted'ground ahd seed shield tlie whole makes an attractive entrance that compels admiration. In the annexe is displayed a wide range of machinery and farming implements, that in these days of shortage of labor are right before the farmer. They include a Lister cyl engine, Advance mower and rakes, Monitoi drill, Melotte separators, rams, etc ( The motor department also is well represented. Some o,f the finest mddels that the firm sells are here to he viewed, fhey include a 7-seater, 0-eylinder, 40-li.p. Hudson, replete with all the latest improvements; a .l.i-lO h.p. Ftudebakev, also 7-seater; fi 5-seater and also a 2seater Dodge Bros.' ear. and a B.S.A. motor-cycle. A display of Mieheiinn and (loodyear tyres, general collection of oils, etc., and a handsome case containing all motor accessories, among which are noticeable mascots, clocks, pumps, jacks, lamps, etc., complete a very comprehensive exhibit.
L. A. NOLAN AND 30. An interesting exhibit is made by Messrs, L. A. Nolan and Co.. as agents for tlie Cement I'ipo Co., Ltd., and Milburn Cement Co., Ltd. ' The exhibit includes cement pipes, fencing posts, garden rollers, troughs, and other useful pvticles. The firm's general exhibit i tains a comprehensive, display of seeds and manures for wliieh they ar* agents. A very interesting feature is (he exhibition of .hcepskins and calfskins, showing how they should be treated to secure full market valus. An expert is in charge to give full information to fanners who are interested.
ALEX. STORRIE, INVETtCARCtILL. In a perhaps inconspicuous position in the annexe there is an exhibit that is worthy of notice by all farmers who visit the Show. It is that of Alex. Storrie. Ltd., Invereargill, who have become renowned throughout New Zealand as manufacturers of perfectly reliable farming implements. A Turnip and Hoot Crop liidger, a Turnip and Mangold Thinner, and a two-horse Hoe comprise lite exhibit, which, though small, should impress all who inspect it. The Turnip Ridger was awarded the special diploma at Ihe 1!)07 Christchurch Ex. hiiiition and was also winner of two gold medals and one silver medal in IBOfi. lillS, and lflU. At the Auckland Exhibition, 1013-14, the two-horse hue was awarded a gold modal. The "Storrie'' manufactures are rapidly coming into use in Tarannki. and those who work them swear by them for clean and satisfactory results. It may be mentioned tlmt at Urenni, in the Sutton's Swede Acreage. C'ompetitoin, in lfllii and IM6, S. Topliss won. He used the Storrie Ridger. .The 101 j crop was 02 tons, and the 191 C result was 411 acres for first crop and 3(1 acres for second crop. At the present Show carrots which lmd been sown by ridger took first and second, and first, second, third, find fourth prizes, and also took first, second, and third prizes in turnips and mangel classes.
DUNCAN AND DAVIES. TJiis well-known firm of nurserymen have a most attractive exhibit, prominent amongst it being a beautiful bolder plant. Althananthemm, which is quite a novelty in Taranaki, Messrs Duncan and Davies being the first to grow it here. There arc; at this stand some very fine specimens of Tied Birch anil a beautiful one of the Neproneplis fern. Several flowering orchids and a varie* gated Karaka also command attention. A general collection of hedge and shelter trees, fruit trees, and of favorite flowering shrubs (Daphne, Bouvardia. Baronia, etc.) complete an excellent exhibit.
RTDn MILKIXG MACHINE C.U, The principal feature of this Company's exhibit is the Eidd-Armstrong releaser on a two-cow plant Ridd Milker. The releaser, installed as it is throughout Taranaki, is well known to farmers for its satisfactory working. Its advantages over the bucket system are manifold, and its simplicity is enough to recommend it. There are no valves to go wrong and it is easily cleansed. The releaser patent, which is held by the company, can also be attached to bucket plants, the motive power for the wovking of the exhibit is supplied by a Watt oil engine which the company recommends. The latest thins in vacuum tanks is also shown, and should arrest the attention of every dairy farmer. CJlobe Separators (hand or power), complete a very practical dairy exhibit, and the courteous manager, Mr. E. 11. George, is at hand to sive-any particulars to enquirer' IXGLISWOOD BACOX CO. This firm is again to the fore with a display that is if anything more attractive than of yore. It comprises hams, sides and rolls of bacon, relieved with clear white lard ranging from boxes to lib pats. ,
MORSTIEAD NURSERY CO.
The Morshead Xurserv Company are well to tiie fore again this year with a splendid display of pot plants, including, some line specimen palms, asparagus" horse-shoe, aspidistra and maidenhair ferns, and a collection of new ferns, including tile best of the new nepholcpsis varieties: native plants, including kauri, cord.vliiu', and meryta sinclarii) the rare native puka, coplosnia wiland the variegated coprosma baucriana. There are ' also many other lines of shrubs. Some fine specimens of well-groivn fruit trees, of all varieties, are included in the exhibit. Some of the (lowering shrubs are represented by bonvardias, heaths, lassandrias, greviilia, and daphne, and these are quite one. of the features of the exhibit, which is most effectively displayed just inside, the entrance of the show-room.
BORTHWICK'S, LTD. i This well-known firm makes a very attractive exhibit of its high grade canned meats packed under the strictest Government supervision. This comprises in three si/.e tins, boiled, corned, spiced, beef, mutton, cheek, luncheon' beef, ox and sheeps' tongues, and pork brawn. Tjhc latest delicacy to he placed on the market by this firm is cm tail soup, in tins. 'This only requires boiling for 20 minutes, to* provide a tasty soup, for the family. . It should prove one of the most saleable of their manv delicacies. ■ '
THE WIZARD LIGHT. An exhibit that commands attention from farmers and particularly their vives is the Wizard Light, which is being demonstrated at the Hall oy the local agents, F. H. Robertson and Co. '! hose who are familiar with the mofnii.g task of lamp filling and trimming, together with the continual breaking of lamp globes so common where kerosene lamps are used, fully appreciate the benefits to be derived by having gas installed, and the JYizard Light is a selfcontained gas plant for lighting country homes, stores, halls, etc. It consists of a small reservoir outside the building from which benzine or petrol is carried through a very fine tube to the lamps where it is generated into gas and burns liks ordinal gas in an inverted mantel. It can also be. used with cookers. Already some 40 plants hafc; been placed in North Taranaki home* whose occupiers find it economical, simple, safe, and reliable.
A HOUSEHOLD STAND. Mr. R. A. Noelo, of Palmerston North, inventor of the Allies' Hand Protector and Polisher, has a stand on which are exhibited the polisher and clothes sj.rinkVr, <jn inside clothps line, etc.. All are household novelties designed to save (he housewife any needless drudgory. The polisher is in the shape of a fingerless glove, and its uses are. 'manifold. IJemMistraticins will be given during the show, and a very limited number are for sale, as he is experiencing some difficulty in fulfilling the demand. Another useful article on this household »tand is a safety clothes prop, which is absolutely reliable in any gale. Inspection of this article will convince any person of its utility.
JOE JENKTNSON. " The value of good paint expertly ap. ulied, is evidenced from two cars that' are on show which have received attention at the hands of Mr. Joe .lenkinson, who specialises in car painting in his roomy workshop, Brougham Street. Those cars, though they have been on the road several months, look ,as spic and span as if they were new. One is painted fawn, fine' lined in dark green, whilst the other ,is white throughout. The upholstering of both has also been treated with a special preparation,, which renovates it, and adds to the general appearance of the car. For some time past, Mr. Jenkinson has devoted himself solely to painting motor cars, and inspection of his work should hj" sufficient recommendation to those whose ears now present a shabby appearance.
