A German aeroplane wal brought down northward of Vic-sur-Aisne. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. Wellington, May 18. The High Commissioner reports under date London, May 17, 3.10 p.m.:—

In the Argonne, at La Fille Morte, there was mine fighting which ended to ou3 advantage. On the left of the Meuse there was a bombardment of our first lines. The enemy, in an attempt to make progress witli hand grenades, approached Mort Homme, but was completely checked. On the right bank of the Meuse there was great artillery activity on both sides in ■ the region between Haudromont Wood and tlie lake at Vaux. North-west of Thiamont farm a grenade attack on one of our listening posts was successfully repulsed. There were artillery duels at several points, noticeably in Champagne and in the region of Butte de Mesnil. On Tuesday night thirteen bomMng aereplanea threw 24 shells on enemy bivouacs in the region of Damvilliers and Chaumont, 11 on the stations at Brieulles and Clery, 14 on the Cantonments at Natillois and Romagne, 21 on Apremont station and Grand Pre. Several fires were seen a? the result. A French pilot brought down a German aeroplane north of Vic-sur-Aisne, both wings of the enemy machine becoming detached during the fall. Another French squadron dropped 40 shells on the hangars at Frescarty, 20 on the stations at Metz, 40 at Arnaville, and 30 on the railway line and stations on the Metz-Thionville line.
