ARRESTED AT LEVIN. FOR SPYING ROUND THE COTJNTRf, ( " . ,f By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmerston North, Last Ni','h'». Two foreigners, I. Shack and A. T\n. mashko, purporting to be Russian journalists travelling around the. world on foot, and who were recently in Fa linerston North, were arrester! today it Levin, under Instructions from the militavy authorities. Both military and poliee officials are extremely ivticent regarding the matter, but startling developments are expected in a few day*. It appears that the two men were travelling about the country, ostensibly for the purpose of gaining material for future articles in the RuSsian press, Though they had, apparently, bona-fide passports, their actions aroused the suspicions of the military authorities, with kept watch on them. Tt seems that the two men were seen near Rangiotu Camp, and spent a night at a German's place near there. This confirmed the suapicoins of the military authorities, wijth the result that the police commnnicKed with Constable Wood, of Levin, wha traced the men to Foxton, only to find that they had taken road to Levin. They were finally arrested at Levin, and the two men were brought to th« Palmerston police station and searched. The search did not reveal much of apparently incriminating character, although a photograph found on one of the men bore the name of a Hamburg photographer. They will be locked up pending the pleasure of ..the military authorities.
