NEW PLYMOUTH HIDE, WOOL, SKIN AND TALLOW SALE. L. A. Nolan and Co. report:—Our four-weekly sale of the above took place in our Gill street store on May 2. We submitted an average catalogue of hides, skins., etc., and about 25 bales and sundry bags of wool. Competition 'was much keener than has been the case recently. Hides showed a very substantial rise (about l%d) on account of the fact that the ambargo on theii export has been practically removed. Sheepskins were wanted and sold well at better prices than last month. Woo' was slightly better, and we sold or obtained reasonable offers for all lines submitted. Tallow in ensks reached the fine price of 28s 3d per cwt. We quote:— Hides.—Ox, heavy lid, ll%d, ll%d, medium ll%d, light lOd, settlers' light fld; cow. heavv lO'/.d, 10% d, 10% d, medium, best l(iy 4 d, 10% d - others m/ 4 d, 9%d, Mg-ht (best) lOrl, 10y B d, 10% d, others flVid. fiy 2 d, settlers' extra light S'/ S d, light Sy B d, 8y 2 d. A comparison of above prices for clean well-salted hides with those for discolored and damp shows the value of attention to'the important work of preparation.
