ORIGIN OF SINN FEINERS.
To tlip Editor. Pi''.—Allow mo to correct a report in the Xows which states that the so-called ''Sinn Feiners" began in America in 1858. I beg to inform yon that it is not f.o. The "Sinn" was a name given to a political party in Ireland about' eight years ago by Lord Dunraven, who organised a small party of renegade Home Rulers, including William O'Brien, •John 0 Donnell, Tim Healy, Maurice Healy and two or three others in opposition to John Redmond's Home Rule policy. It is a fJaelic word which.means "ourselves." On the other hand, the Fenians of 1858 were rebels and derived the name from an ancient tribe of warriors and hunters called "Fcims." which inhabitated Ireland before the advent of Christianity and the word means ''hunters."—l am, etc.,
