HOME FOR INCURABLES.

IS THE TAEANAKI BOABT) fiOTNfi TO CARRY OUT THEIR AGREEMENT? (From Our Stratford Correspondent.! At the Stratford Hospital "Board meeting on Tuesday, the chairman said lie thought the time had arrived when the Taranaki Board should be asked to state definitely what they were going to do with the old hospital buildings. Rome years ago a conference between the Taranaki, Hawera, and Stratford Boards had been held, and these bodies agreed that when the new hospital nt New Plymouth was completed, the old building should be turned into a home for chronic and incurable patients, and that the different Boards should pay in equal shares the cost of maintaining the home. The agreement had been signed by representatives of each Board, and if the original arrangement was not going to be carried out by /lie Taranaki Board the Stratford Board should be informed of the altered circumstances. He moved: ''That the Taranaki Hospital Board be.written to and asked if the time had not arrived when the old hospital at New Plymouth should bo converted into a ffome for Incurables, as agreed upon bv the Stratford, Hawera, and Taranaki Boards, and, if so, whether steps will he taken to fix up the building for the purpose agreed upon." Mr. Sole, in seconding, said he was not 'quite sure if it would not be a wine thing to defer the matter for some time, on the score of expense. At the same time they should know definitely whether the Taranaki Board intended going on with the arrangements. There was a rumor that the Taranaki Boar-d were wishing to let the agreement signed by the Boards lapse, and get out of fulfilling the promise. The chairman said they had incurable eases in the Stratford hospital, and the hospital was never meant to accommodate such cases. It would relieve the Board considerably if the old hospital was converted to the purpose originally suggested, because then the incurable cases could be transferred to that place. After some further discussion tha motion was carried.
