DAYLIGHT SAVING.
INTRODUCED OX, THE CONTINENT. RECOMMENDED IN BRITAIN. By Cabh.—Press Association—Copyright Amsterdam. May 4. There were curious scenes at the coming in of tlie Daylight Saving Bill. People stayed up till midnight to see the hands of the public clocks skip around an liour. There was much cheering. The scheme is expected to give a great impetus to sports. London, May 4.
Mr. Herbert Samuel writes that tlie Government is in favor of a Daylight Saving Bill, on the ground of tlie economy in fuel for lighting purposes. Managers of railways strongly support it. Mr. Samuel says that we cannot ignore it now that it has been in operation in Germany, Austria, and Holland since May 1. and that France will follow suit. The simplest way is to advance clocks one hour from May to October when K reverts to the r. '.n'.us que ant'e.
