WAITARA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

Waitara, May 3. The annual general meeting of the Waitara Municipal Brass Band and Citizens' Committee, in conjunction, was held in the Council Chambers last evening, his Worship the Mayor presiding. After the reading of the report and balance-sheet, which showed a credit of £l2 2s 4d, the past work and present standing of the band was considered. The following officers for the current year were e'ected: President, his Worship the Mayor; vice-president, Mr. W. E. Johns; secretary, Mr. H. S. Tate; treasurer, Mr. Marlow; auditor, Mr. H. M. Lund; Citizens' Committee: Messrs. Buchanan, Were, Nosworthy, Rennie, and Proctor.

An honorarium of £5 5s was voted to Mr. Marlow, as an appreciation of his services as secretary. Mr. Marlow thanked those pesent for their kind remarks, and stated he wished the money to be handed over to Mr. Hughes to be spent in the purchase of a new side drum. It was decided to register the band under the Friendly Societies Act; and also that the general committee meet quarterly. The patriotic spirit shown by the band during the past year in answering the numerous calls made upon them by various entertainments held for patriotic purposes was commented on, as was also the progress made while under the baton of Bandmaster Hughes, and although several of the best players had answered the call, their places to a certain extent had been filled by old members, who had shown their public spirit by rejoining, and by others who are ineligible for active service. It is hoped the public will continue to take an interest in the band, which was one any town might oe proud of, and give it their whole-hearted support. New music had been received, and more will continue coming in at intervals, and should attract a large number at future open-air and indoor concerts, which are to be given by the band. A vote of thanks accorded to Mr. T. Hughes for the untiring work he had put into the band concluded the meeting.
