BOROUGH INSPECTOR.
A BUSY, YEAR The Borough Inspector (Mr. B. Tip. pins), reported that for the year ejidimr March it], he col!ecte4 the following fees: Vehicular licenses £l4l 11? drivers, £4B las, billiard saloons £26," registration of motors £SO 10s, hawkers' licenses £8 10s, second-hand dealers £1 ss, boarding houses £l4, weighbridges £2, milk vendors £0 2s, public performances £3l 7s 3d, dairy licenses £2 ss, auctioneers £lO2, traction engine £3 dog licenses £l3l 10s, pound fees £O2 Ds 3(jj and during the year he had had 79 cases for breaches of Borough by-law* before the Court, Two were dismissed, four werp convicted and ordered to pay costs only, in all the other cases fine* were imposed, the Court fees amounting to £37 15s. During the year the new by-laws came into operation, and in addition to the foregoing amount £Bl 10s had been collected, representing the fee* for certificates of competency to driva motor cars, and £3l for motor bicycle*. The total revenue collected amounted t-> £844 f)s 6d. ! , A portion of his time was also occii. pied collecting arrears of rates and outstanding electric light accounts, the total cellected amounting to about £2OO. At the outset there was some difficulty in making people understand the provision* as laid down in the by-laws, but they were now becoming quite conversant with them, and generally speaking giving effect to same.
