DISTRICT NEWS.

EGMONT VILLAGE. The agricultural instructor, Mr. Sergei, gave a,n. address in the schoolroom on Wednesday evening, taking for his subject," "Pastures, permanent and temporary; the most suitable top-dressing to be used and also the best time to apply the dressing." The address, which was most instructive, was very attentively listened to, and at the conclusion the lecturer signitied his willingness to answer appropriate questions, and most of those present availed themselves of the opportunity for learning all they cculd. Mr. Sergei, who never seems to tire of answering questions and giving useful advice, was kept fairly busy for another hour. Those farmers who attend these lectures will receive considerable benefit. One cannot leavn too much about up-to-date farming in these days of keen competition, and how to make the best returns from the farms by rotation cropping. A meeting of ladies was held in the hall on Friday afternoon, to consider the best means of assisting the different relief funds; A committee was formed, with Miss Nesbit as secretary. The sum of 2.">s was collected in the room, to he used for the purpose of purchasing comforts for those who 'have gone to the front. It was decided to hold a euchre party and dance on Thursday next, May 4, when the net proceeds will be used; to augment the fund. I am informed that this will be tfle first of a series of similar functions to be held throughout the winter months to help this .fund. The .milk supply at the local creamery lias fallen oft to such an extent during,'the cold snap recently that the manager has given instructions that the milk will be collected every other day from May 1. The farmers, who liave had a somewhat strenuous season, will appreciate these arrangements. I understand the Mangorei Company intend paying an interim bonus of 2d per lb on butter-fat supplied during the export season from August 1 to April 30, in addition to the usual monthly cheque on May 20. There will be some smiling faces on that date.
