I HIGH REPORT. The Department of Agriculture, Industries and Commerce has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, dated London, April 20. (Note: Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average mar* ket prices on spot) : Meat.—A good demand continues for all descriptions of New Zealand meat, although more ewes and lambs are available this week for the general public. No change in prices. Home-killed at higher prices; supplies are decreasing. Mutton.—Canterbury and other brands than Canterbury 7%d per lb. Quotations are nominal. Ewes 7%d.

Lamb.—New Zealand hinds, all descriptions, B%d per lb.

Beef.—No New Zealand beef of any description at the market. Supplies of American chilled beef ar e small. Hinds 9%d, fores 8y 4 d.

Butter. The market is quiet but steady. Danish, per cwt., 172s to 1745; New Zealand, lG2s to 1645, fair to good quality 150s to 1583; Australian, 158s t» 158s; Siberian, IBBs to 1345; Argentine, 150s to 1525; Irish creamery 150s to 160s.

Cheese.—The market is very firm. Canadian, per cwt., 108s to 109s; New Zealand, lO.is to lOGs; English Cheddar, 116s to 118s; United States, 102s to 105s.

Hemp.—Market very quiet on account of Manila being easier, New graded fair on spot, per ton, £55; June to August shipment, £sl 10s. The output from Manila for the week ended 22nd inst., 27,000 bales. New Zealand, firm; near parcels command premium. For distant parcels shippers and buyers are more reserved on account ef freight uncertainty. Nominal values: New Zealand, good-fair, per ton, near at hand, £4!) 10s; February to May shipment, good-fair, £4B 10s; fair, £46 15s. Wheat.—Market quiet; prices slightly weaker. First-grade Manitoba afloat, per quarter, 59s Gd; May to June shipment, 56s Od; Australian, afloat, 623 Sd. Oats.—Market is firm, with an upward tendency. Spot demand has improved.

Wool.—Wool sales have adjourned until May 2 for remaining four days' sale. Recent competition much better than (luring last series. Merinos have hardened, crossbreds now equal to last sales' rates.

LIVE STOCK SALES. ADDINGTON. At Addington live stock market there v.-er fi small entries in all' departments and a much reduced attendance. Store sheep—Forward lambs' 10s to 18s 9d, ordinary lambs 12s Cd to 15s 10d, cull lambs 8s 3d to 10s 9d, wether lambs 14s to 16s, 2-tooth ewes 17s Sd, 4, 6 and 8-to»th ewes 16s Sd to 235, 6 and S-tooth ewes 17s Id to 21s lftd, failingmouthed ewes 12s to 13s od, aged ewes 6k 7d to 7s, 2-tooth wethers 21s 3d to 21s 7d, 4 and 0-tooth wethers 14s to 21s Id, 0 and 8-tooth wethers 14s to 21s Id, Fat lambs—Prime lambs 21s to 24s Si, others 16s 8d to 20s fid.

Fat sheep—Prime wethers 25s to 30s 1(1, others 18s to 24s Cd, merino wethers 2f)s 3d to 235, prime ewes 24s to 27s Id, medium lfls to 23s fid, others 14s 7d to 18s 6<l, merino ewes 13s 10d to 16s. BUENSIDE. At Bnniside 120 fat cattle were penned, mostly medium quality. Butchers secured the total entry at prices about 15s in advance of last week's prices. But bulleeks made .£l6 AOg to £l7 10g,

Fat sheep.—lßls penned. Values gradually hardened and finished about Is Srt in advance of last week's rates, prime wethers selling especially well. Heavy wethers made 27s 6d to 31s, extra prime 35s 3d, medium 24s 6d to 26s Od, light 19s Od to 21s, unfinished 15s upwards, heavy ewes 27s t0,305, extra prime 31s fid to 34s 3d, medium 20s to 255, light 14s upwards. Lambs—Bls penned. The quality was above the average, and competition was keen, prices advancing about Is. Best 22s Gd to 245, extra'heavy 24s fid to 27s fld, medium 18s to 21s, light »nd unfinished 13s to 15s 6d # Pigs—A small yarding, prices being exceptionally firm. Sheep: Fresh full-mouth ewes been running with rams sold at from £1 3s Gd to £1 9s fld; fullmouth owes 15s to £1 Is; inferior ewes 12s to 14s Od, lambs, for best, 12s' to 14s, others 7s Gd to lis fid.
