TURF TOPICS. (By "Moturoa.")' To?day there will be racing at Ellerslie, Feilding, Riccarton, Hawera, and a host of minor centres. Taranaki horses are very heavily engaged at the Feilding, meeting, and that and the Auckland Easter gathering (at which a quartette are engaged) will engage mosi attention. The Hawera trots proinise excellent racing for those who have not" gone to other centres, and no doubt the attendant)- will be large. Big fields will face the starter in every event at Feilding. The Cup has attracted some fine horses, of which Leonta and Master Lupin appear to be as fit as anything else engaged. The Mangaone Stakes will see Astor and Tirana measuring stries, and the better of the pair should run a good race. The minor events have filled well, and Zola, Tararua Jack, Austin, Black Ada, Veto, and Stfii'oiigo are all in good racing trim for their engagements; The Great Easter Handicap at Riccarton burs a very open appearance. T ie-a-Tete, Bimeter, Emperador, Oxenhope and Flying Start being placed within a stone. Possibly the bracketed Greenwood pair will carry the bulk of the coin, but Tete-aTete has only to reproduce Wangainii form to prove a thorn in their side. Eligible, Koesian, Snub, Ei'vpt. and Battle Eve are much discussed candidates in tii« minor heats. Some iii.c trotters are billed to appear at Hawera to-day, and Huia Gray, Tim Doolan, Stone Beldon, Rio Grande, and Celtic are expected to run forward in whatever they start. [ll connection with the Guy Faw'vw— Silvio discv.iision, Mr. Jas Wells, ef the Valuation Department, Wellington, who ii now on a visit to his brother, Mr. Ben Wells, says that Mr. Geo Sole? of New Plymouth, owned Moki Moki (not lloka Moka), and bred Guy Fawkes, whom lie sold as a foal at foot with the mother to Mr. Bob Winthrop, from whom Mr. Wells afterwards purchased them, the mare being stinted to Isaac Walton, the .result being Silvi?, Mr. Wells also bred from the mare Omata, Lrfßy Onslow, Lord Onslow, and Putiki. The late J. J. Russel trained for Mr. Wells, who is under the impression that both Guy Fawkes and Silvio won the Great Northern Steeplechase. Guy Fawkes also won the Takapuna and Wanganui Steeplechase, but was beaten by Duder Bros' Belle in the Great Northern and Takapuna Hurdles. He afterwards sold Guy Fawkes to Messrs. R. Hoskin and Smith, and after changing hands again, the horse went to Australia. Silvio was afterwards purchased by Mr. Gus Sole.
