AN IMPRESSIVE SERVICE.

AT ST. MARY'S CHUttCH. MEMORIAL TO KEV. W. HOLLAND. The ceremony of the benediction pi the altar which has just been erected in St. Mary's Church to tho memory of the' Rev. Wrn. Borland, first vicar of -St. Mary's Church, was performed bv tno vicar (the Rev. A. 11. Colvile) at tho evening service on Thursday last. Tliqiu present were privileged to hear a most impressive, eloquent nnd helpful >jj!> dress, tho preacher laying special sireM upon the wonderful influence which Mr. Holland had exercised during the sfiffri time 1 of his ministry in New Plymouth. Almighty fiod, in Hia wisdom, had seeu fit to call him to a higher sphere of use* fulness at a very early stage of his labors in the parish, but his work had been such that he had left behind him *, lasting memorial, hot only in. the bountiful church, the building of which he initiated, but also in 'the hearts and lives of his parishioners,. A most remarkable thing was that his influence had passed down to, and was felt by, a generation Which knew him in nanie only. ,

The altar, which is in Mount Some;s stone, is enriched by four mosaio panels, the latter being the gift of Miss Pevenißli, and the whole of the work has been carried .out by Messrs Paterson, Wn'lpolo nnd Darlington in a most satisfactory manner.
