The High Commissioner reports:— London, 19th April, 1.55 a.m. Twice in the last 30 hours our troops penetrated at different points into the German trenches, once in daylight yesterday, and once during the night. On each occasion the enterprise met with. complete success, a machine-gun emplacement being destroyed and several dug-nntg bombed. Our casualties were one wounded and one missing. The Saxons stormed and rc-captured the quarries seven hundred metres south of Haudrolnont ridge, north-west of Thiaumont, capturing forty-two unwounded officers, and 1646 men. The names will be gazetted similarly to those of the 7111 officers and 38,155 men captured at Verdun since February 21. This is Germany's reply to French denials.
