SHIPPING SHORTAGE.
WEST COAST TIMBER INDUSTRY HAMPERED. By Telegraph./—Pre3s Association. Oreymouth April 14. The West Coast timber industry is seriously, hampered by Jhe shortage of shipping. Some thousands of pounds' worth of timber are on the skids, but the millers are annblc to fulfil orders owing to the paucity of ships. The Union Company explains that it cannot fulfil its engagements as its licet ii virtually commandeered for ..ational purposes. At a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce. a resolution was passed to approach the fioverninent to see if the position can he ameliorated by the ••elease of ships. If immediate relief is not forthcoming all the mills will close down at an early date.
