GENERAL QUIET. OFFICIAL REPORTS. Received April 14, 7.5 p.m. Paris, April 13. A communique says: The night was calm at Verdun. A German attack was prepared at dusk yesterday against Hill 304, but the enemy were unable to leave their trenches, owing to our curtain of fire. An enfilading fire on German columns assembled at Malancourt Wood rendered the operation abortive. A Berlin wireless says that the weather conditions were averse to observations, and generally hindered fighting during the greater part of yesterday. A French gas attack north-east of Compeigne was without result, GERMAN MAGNIFYING GLASSES. JN THEIR PRISONERS. Received April 14, 7.5 p.m. London .April 13. The Germans claim to have captured 35,876 unwounded prisoners on the Verdun front between February 21st and April 10. Experts point out that this exceeds tile total of French dead, wounded, and prisoners, and the latter do not exceed 17,000. ENEMY MAKE NO ADVANCE. Received April 14, 9.5 p.m. •London, April 14. General Sir I>ouglas Haig reports: The enemy on Tuesday night, after a heavy bombardment with a'large proportion of lachrymatory slielle, raided the trenches near La Boiselle. We drove him out. On Wednesday night the enemy three times attacked the trendies north-cast of Cerney. The attacks reached our trenches, but t'he enemy were driven back. TROOPS FOR THE VSER. # ~ CONTINUE TO ARRIVE. Received April 15, I.s'a.m. Amsterdam, April 14. German troops and guns continue to arrive on the Yser front. WASTING SHELLS. BOMBARDMENT PROCEEDING. Received April 14, 9.5 p.m. Paris, April 14. A communique says: The bombardment of Hill 304, and the Mort HommeCumieres front continues. Our long range gun fire started a fire at Nove-ant-sur-Moselle station.
