GOLF.

WITIORA CLUB, The official opening of the Witiora Golf Club took place yesterday afternoon. The president (Mr. W. 0. IP. O'C'allaghan), in declaring the links open for play, congratulated the club on its financial position, as it had over ,£SO in hand to commence the season with. Probably no other town in New Zealand of the size of Xew Plymouth had links so handy to the town, being practically within only ten minutes' walk of the tram terminus. He hoped that men who were so unfortunate as not to lie able to go to the front would be induced to become members. Mr. O'C'allaghan concluded his interesting speech by wishing members a most enjoyable and prosperous time. Xo matches were arranged ; fpr the day, but mixed foursomes were mostly played. XEW PLYMOUTH .CLUB. A medal match was played on the New Plymouth Club's links at Waiwakaiho yesterday afternoon. IPoints will be awarded in each match, the totals to bo made up at the end of the season. For yesterday's match W. H. Wood scores three points, W. C. Weston two points, and the Rev. A. B. Chappell one point. The best scores returned were: W IT. Wood '102—20—82 W. C. Weston ...'. 01—5—8(1 Rev. .A. Ti, Chappell IH—26—BB W. P. Xicoll 101—11-00 D. K. Morrison 112—16—00 TARAXAKI EASTER TOURNAMENT. Anzac Day falls on Easter Tuesday, and in view of the special gatherings which arc to be held on this occasion, it has been decided that eight instead of sixteen will qualify for the championship at the Taranaki tournament at Waiwakaiho, thus enabling it to be decided on Tuesday morning. The fourball match will also be played on Tuesday morning instead of during the afternoon, and the bogey match to have been.played on Tuesday morning will be deleted from the programme, thus leaving the afternoon free. A reminder is given that entries close on Wednesd' y next with Mr. K. B. Bain, and as tn'e meeting is for patriotic purposes it is hoped there will be a good entry. The links are in particularly fine order.
