Wellington, April ' 11, ■ Cabinet has begun to deal with tbf matters that will be placed befor* Par* liament 'during the coming session. The business is to oe confined as far as possible to the questions relating to tho war, but it is evident already that the volume of work awaiting members when they reach Wellington next month will be fairly large. Minister* are anxious to have a short session, and probaoly members would like to assist them to that end. But some of the Rills 'Parliament will have to consider will not easily be hurried on to the Statute Book. RAILWAY "CASUALS," The Minister for Railways (Hon. VT, H. Berries) stated to-day that he in. tended to make a recommendation regarding the "regular of the Railway Department, who were the subject of a petition which received the favorable consideration of a parliamentary committee last session. , His proposal was that in the cases of casuals who were ineligible "for appointment to the permanent staff when they first joined the service, or who, although eligible in point of age, had H been unable to pass the examination necessary to qualify for permanent appointment, leave on full pay for certain period! would be granted the men if their services were dispensed with through, np fault of their own after they had completed at least ten years' fix*d service. The periods of leave would be six week* for from ten years to fifteen year*' service, and eight weeks for more than fifteen years' service. The new ilgif lation will provide also that a regular casual whose services are dispensed with under its provisions mav be granted one privilege ticket per month for himself and his wife for a specified journey at one-quarter the usual fare.
