PRESENTED BY NEW PLYMOUTF RESIDENT, By Telegraph.—Press Associatioa, Wellington, Last Nigh*. • An interesting collection, comprfninf a scries of portraits and historic*! material relating to the Maori wars, hi| been obtained from Mr. W> F. Gordon, ojf New Plymouth, and to-day it vu thrown open for inspection at th* Dominion Museum. Hon. G. W. Russell, addressing those present, referred to tltt Mitchell library in Sydney, and to tt» efforts already made at Auckland anil Christchurch to secure collections if material connected with provincial hbV tories. He thought there should *kw f» a National Collection Board of Science and Art. He proposed to find space f« one in the new museum. The collection, now displayed was the nucleus of thl* national exhibition.
Mr. Russell also presented the King's medal for Polar exploration workjo Mr. H. Hamilton, of the Museum staff, who was the biologist with the MftwMjt expedition. jP
