A RECORD SALE.
MR, NEWTON KING AT INGLEWOOD. •Mr. Newton King's opening sale at Inglewood ' yesterday afternoon . drew a record attendance' buyers and settlers from all parts of Taranaki being present. There was also a record yarding of both cattle and sheep, comprising about 1500 of the former and 1000 of the latter. Mot only were all the pens full, but the runways were also utilised, and it was found necessary to accommodate the overflow in a paddock opppsite. Prior to the sale, Mr, Walter Matthews, auctioneer to the old firm, who had wielded the hammer in the yards since their removal . from the centre of Inglewood, in a short speech thanked the settlers present for the patronage extended to the old firm, and expressed the hope that the same patronage would be extended to the new firm. .He also expressed his gratification at seeing sucli a big yarding. Mr. S. W. Shaw apologised for the absence of Mr. Newton King, who much regretted his inability to be present at the opening sale. Mr. Shaw expressed his pleasure at the big yarding, which augured well for the future. He' felt quite sure they would get their failshare of support from the farmers of the district, and he hoped that it would prove mutually advantageous. They did not expect to do the whole business; all they wanted was their fair share. They expected competition, and did not mind how keen it was, provided it was friendly. They had worked well with their friends —the Loan and Mercantile Company- and the. Farmers' Co-operative Organisation Society—in other districts, and there was no reason why they should not do the fame at Inglewood.
Mr. Charles Fairbrother then mounted the rails and the sale commenced, in earnest, the auctioneer being kept busy until close on dark. He was relieved for a brief interval during the afternoon by Mr. Walter Matthews. • The majority of the stock offered was quitted at very satisfactory prices,' bullocks being in good demand and realising as high as £hs. Yearling steers were also in demand, realising from £2 16s to £3 3s. Tt is the intention of Mr. King to continue holding weekly stock sales at Inglewood, and also to hold the usual Saturday mart sales.-
