STRATFORD NEWS.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Yesterday. Mr. Campbell Jackson has received cable news to-day that Private "Bob" Woods (his brother-in-law), has received a commission as lieutenant. Lieut. Woods went with the main hody, and came through the Gallipoli campaign unscathed, and his many friends will be pleased to hear of his'advancement.
This afternoon, as the "Whanga" train was shunting into the siding at the local station the carriages were not pulled up in time, with the result that the guard's van struck the concrete buffer and the van left the line, part of it being tilted on the platform, a gang was soon at work and righted matters. Sergt. Dale has received advice that Constable McCowan, who was wounded during the capture of the Maori prophet Rua, received gunshot wounds in the hand.
Everybody is talking "Soldiers' Day," and from the enthusiasm shown by the public, the A. and P. Association Grounds on Easter Monday should be crowded.
