RAISING THE WIND.
MORE TAXES TO COME. Received 'April 2, 6.5 p.m, C'"' London, 'April I. The Daily Telegraph believes that Mr. McKenna, intends to raise an additional hundred millions sterling, chiefly from income-tax. It is expected that Mr. McKenna will propose a 20 per cent. increase- in the income-tax; 10 per cent, additional on tho excess profits tax; extra duty on coffee, cocoa, and chicory; increased spirit duties, and an amusement* tax.
The year's revenue lias increased by £110,072,744. The total receipts wore £336,758,824. The income-tax yielded £128,320,000, customs i£59,000,000, and excise .£61,210,000.
