There were magnificent cloud displays, including cumulus, stratocv.mulus, alto-cumulus, and cirrus (mare's tail). The finest sunset of the year occurred on the 23rd, displaying long brilliant crimson strata with attenuated points.. Being the month of the autumnal equinox, high winds blew on the 20th, 22nd, 25th and 2fith. The sun shone clear over 10 hours on seven days, the remainder being more or less sultry, >vi;h intermittent sunshine. Rain fell on ten days—3o points on the 20th, five points on two days; total 1.44 in. 'Clouds, one point on six days to- nine points on three days. Hail fell on 23rd, and snow on Mt. Egmont (first of the season). Thunder occurred on 71i, ISh, 21st, 22nd and 24th. Earthquakes occurred on lath and 28th. Maximum shade temperature, -64deg. on "tb, 62deg on Minimum shade temperature, 66deg. on 6th, 45deg on 23rd. Maximum wet-bulb, 84deg. on 20th, 62deg on two days. Minimum wet-bulb, 64deg. on 6th, 47deg on 23rd. Sunshine recorder, 10hr 57min on 9th, 50min on Bth—total, 207 hr 6min. Solar radiator (sun's heat), 164deg on, 19th, 133deg on Bth.
