AMUSEMENTS.
EMPIRE PICTURE PALACE The two mainstays of the current programme at the Empire Picture Palace are the latest instalment of "The Million Dollar Mystery" and dramatic study, "The Guiding Light." "Tracked by the Secret Service" is the fourteenth episode of the exciting struggle for a million dollars, and is no whit less enthralling than the previous chapters. The two "stars" are supported by a rollicking Kalem comedy, "Foiled," and a beautiful scenic of Switzerland. Charles Chaplin is cleverly cartooned in "Charlie Chaplin's Busted Romance," a very quaint series, whilst a most realistic war film shows the "Belgians storming German Frenches." The latest Pathe Gazette provides an interesting series of war views. The Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Mrs. A. George, plays appropriate musical selections. This programme will be shown again to-night and to-morrow night. "THE GOVERNOR'S LADY." The best is not too good for pictures, and recognising that fact the Famous Players Co. have aimed high in their ambitiouu design for securing good dramatic subjects. One of the big successes which was secured by this company was Belasco's famous New Yorkplay, "The Governor's Lady," which ran for an uninterrupted season of 210 nights, practically constituting a record for a dramatic play in America. The press of America and Australia have acclaimed the star drama, which will be screened at the Theatre Royal with a new programme to-night, as one of the best dramatic pictures yet produced. Splendid pictures will support the star item, including "War in the Air," which shows aeroplanes and hydroplanes flying over the Dardanelles. Bomb-dropping and the following explosions are. clearly seen in this unique film. A further series of Edison's irresistibly humorous cartoons will be seen in "Cartoons on a Yacht." "Ganmont Graphic," depicts the latest war views, and "Chamonix in Summer" supplies foreign travel. THE JOHXSOX-WILLARD FIGHT.
The box plan for the Johnson-Willard fight film in the Theatre Royal on Friday and Saturday, opens to-inorrow at Collier's. Since the announcement that this picture would be shown in New Plymouth the public have shown signs of much interest, and the season is being looked forward to with pleasure. Men such as Johnson and Willard are not born every generation, and it is considered that a number of years will have to elapse before another champion can be unearthed. That the honor of defeating a man of Johnson's ca'ibre is great in the fighting world goes without saying, but it was not without one of the hardest fights on record. Johnson is recognised as being the most scientific boxer the world has ever seen, a veritable Hercules of strength in hitting and stamina, and it speaks volumes for Willard'* powers in having accomplished his downfall.
