OTIRA TUNNEL.

EARLY .COMPLETION URGED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, March 2S. A deputation of members of Parliament and the West Coast Railway League waited on Sir Joseph Ward today and urged that the Otira tunnel should be completed without delay. Speeches were made by Mr. Bruce, of the West Coast League, and by Canterbury members, urging the unrtesirnbility of tapering off the work, and that such a huge amount of capital spent should not be left unproductive. . The work should he the last in New Zealand to be stopped. Sir Joseph Ward, in a very sympathetic reply, stated that the Public Works loan had to carry on to the end of 1017. He assured the deputation that the Otira tunnel would receive a fair share of public expenditure,
