ON THE SEA.
THE SUSSEX. HEAVY LOSS OF MAILS, Received March 30, 8.55 p.m, London, March 29. Thirty-three out of 120 Australian mail bags on the Sussex were saved. Much Government correspondence was lost. RUSSIAN NAVAL ACTIVITY. The Russian patrol which for many months has been constantly sweeping the Black Sea coasts to destroy convoys of provisions and war material matte a specially good haul a few weeks ago. The Russian ships made a sweep upon the Anatolian coastline from the Russian frontier westwards as far as Sinope. One hundred and sixty-three sailing ships were destroyed by Russian torpedo-boats and 31 prisoners captured, the remainder of the crews having made for the shore the moment the Russian smoke appeared in sight. Seventy-three of these vessels were fully laden with commissariat stores. For the first time there is information of the. Turk 3 being in possession of swift motor-boats, for among the craft destroyed in this swoop upon the enemy's coasts two of these vessels -were sunk. Whether the supplies destroyed were destined westwards for the Ottdman capital, or, as is more probable, .were intended for the Turkish armie ß in the field against the Russian front, the loss of so large a quantity of stores must have been seriously felt.
