TOO MUCH RED TAPE.
, ' IN THE POLICE FORCE. • By Telegraph.—Presg Association. Wellington, Last Night. Mr. John Ellison, who lately retired from the Superintcndency of the iPollce Force, was the recipient" of v a presentation from citizens to-day. In the course of a few remarks Mr. Ellison said there was far too much red tape in the police force, and too much clerical work. Every, body made out hie own report, thus entailing a great deal of unnecessary 'labor. Also, there was too much work thrown on Ihe head> office in Wellington. The head of the Department was away from the city about one-third of his time, and during his absence the Wellingtoi chief had to do the work of two men Mr. Ellison eulogised the capabilitiei of his successor, Superintendent O'Donowan, and predicted that he was sure to rise to the top. "Then," he said, "we may have something better."
